“World Cup of Talent Engagement” – Mr. Vikas Gupta,VP, Deloitte Consulting India Pvt Ltd

Mr. Vikas Gupta was a Panellist at IIM Raipur’s First HR Confluence on August 25, 2012 (Theme: Managing Talent for Competitive Advantage: From Identifying and Acquiring Talent to its Retention).

His address was on ‘Talent Retention’ and was titled ‘World Cup of Talent Engagement’. Drawing a simile of a cricket match, he drew similar a very similar image of the process of talent engagement. He likened Engaged Talent, Engaged Client and Business Profit as wickets which an organisation as a baller (the organisation) always wants to achieve.

For such a goal it was important to understand, realise and make full use of aheterogeneous blend of talent working in an organisation for achievement of a common goal. Thus the biggest challenge before an organisation lay in effectively using the vats and diverse skill and talent set for the collective cause of the organisation.

What was also given prominence in his address was the note that ‘transparency’ in an organisations work and execution of plans was very essential to gain the trust of its employees and emerge as credible in the eyes of all stakeholders. He remarked, “Before we go out to play, diversity and transparency of game plan are very critical. Once we are out on the field, we must control the game – by knowing and nurturing our team.We must evaluate team’s strength and weakness and motivate the team for sustained enthusiasm.”

For such a well-connected team he believedthe recruiters have to connect to the talent, even before they join, create a clear path for success and empower the talent to own their career path. Also companies need to create a wave of happiness among the teams and its members, understand the concept of work life balance and help employees live a rich life so that family members of the employees also motivate them, act as cheerleaders and help the employees achieve their collective goals.
