Mr. PankajGautam, CEO, Bhilai Steel Plant in his key note
addressat the inaugural ceremony of the orientation program for
the 1st Batch of Fellow Program in Management (FPM) and 3rd
Batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) told the
students that one of the biggest challenges and issues before a
manager was to create a culture of commitment and productivity.
Such a culture, he opined, would give rise to leaders who
constantly reinvent themselves, their roles and work closely
with people as team members. This he believed could be the
biggest asset of any company, as it served as the stepping stone
to build individual and organisational resilience in turbulent
economic times.

He also stressed on the need for transparency, clarity in the
work culture that would make teams and people work with mutual
trust, cooperation and with common commitments. He also believed
that such a trust could give rise to benevolence, give
self-direction and also lead to feelings of justice that
characterises the organisation.
Leaders accordingly in such an organisation serve as a role
model for others to follow. Leaders thus should act in
accordance to the ethical propositions and values held by self
and the organisation. He also stressed on the need of
development of soft skills for understanding others who work as
team members’ leads to team spirit, empathy which is a major
factor in organisational resilience in the turbulent economic
times of today.
